Jennifer Parsons is a 30-something year old woman. Mum of 3 beautiful children. Wife to a supportive husband. Human with a BRCA 1 gene mutation. Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor. Warrior.
I started Moxie Gift Box after reflecting on my own journey fighting Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) in 2024. Before, and during chemotherapy and following treatments, friends and family asked what I needed and how they could help. But I had no idea – I was unaware of what side-effects and symptoms I would have. I didn’t realise that chemo would change my tastebuds and everything would have an odd metallic taste, or that certain smells would trigger my nausea unbelievably fast. After my double mastectomy surgery, I quickly discovered that a straw tumbler instead of a normal water bottle was the most comfortable way to drink. During radiation, that same tumbler was invaluable in keeping up my hydration.
I have included items that I found useful throughout my journey such as mints, quality tea bags (if you know, you know), lip balm with SPF, toiletry bags for those unwanted but often unavoidable hospital stays, waterdrops to help with taste and hydration, mask sprays to cover smells, and tumblers for ease of hydration. I want my gift boxes to be both practical and comforting and include quality products. I want the recipient to feel loved, cared for, and to have items that actually help them. Whilst everyone’s cancer journey is entirely individual, my hope is that the products in the gift boxes are helpful to the majority of people fighting cancer, regardless of cancer type or gender.
My message to those in the fight is this –
Having cancer is shit. Regardless of type, severity, your age, your circumstances.
Don’t give up.
You are stronger than you know, and you can find the strength to keep going.
To keep fighting.
To keep showing your moxie.
Best wishes, Jen.
